Today is the final day of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, and to nobody’s surprise, the impact of Artificial Intelligence and technology on the economy, global society, and more particularly public health, has been top of the agenda.
The opportunities presented by AI in transforming healthcare delivery are abundant, with AI emerging as one of the most persistent and cross-cutting themes throughout HBI’s most recent conference. From diagnostic imaging, to drug discovery, the impact of AI and digital innovation is evident, enormous, and expanding.
One sector where its influence may not be so obvious, but is certainly impactful, is oral health.
Oral health has been moving up the healthcare agenda for global and intergovernmental organisations in recent years, with the World Health Organization for example launching its Global Oral Health Action Plan 2023-2030.
More and more research in recent years has begun to highlight the impact of oral health at a systemic level, with the connection between mouth health and wider bodily health becoming more apparent. From various cancers to cardiovascular diseases, we are starting to connect the dots between oral health and various disease incidence.
The matter therefore of addressing oral health, and finding AI and technological solutions to improve patient outcomes, throughput, and accessibility, is becoming ever more important, not only for those within the oral health sector, but those active either as providers or investors in our wider healthcare ecosystem.
This is why next week Healthcare Business International is playing host to a webinar: "Consumer-centric trends in oral health: How technology is meeting evolving needs".
Dr. Neil Sikka, Chief Dental Officer at Bupa Insurance, and Sara Dalmasso, Head of Enterprise at Straumann Group, join host HBI’s Rakshitha Narasimhan in exploring oral health’s effect on general health, the impact of technology, and long-term trends within the sector.
The numbers regarding AI and technological impact are compelling: Straumann Group reports that its AI assistant has supported more than 200,000 implant procedures, reducing planning time by up to 50%.
Yet broader adoption of artificial intelligence in oral health remains measured, highlighting the complex relationship between technological capability and practical integration.
This tension between potential and implementation will be explored as part of our webinar.
The discussion promises relevant insights for dental service organisations and insurers navigating this technological transition. Key areas of focus include integrating AI into existing workflows, evolving patient care protocols, and the broader implications for clinical outcomes.
The webinar, taking place on 30th January at 15:00 GMT, forms part of our ongoing analysis of technological transformation in healthcare delivery. Previous sessions in this series have explored parallel developments in diagnostic imaging, and patient engagement.
